SANDS Awareness Month is held throughout July and raises awareness of the impact of neonatal death and stillbirths.
Sands is the leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity in the UK and aims to not only reduce the number of babies dying, but to also support anyone bereaved by the loss of a baby for as long as they need it.
Sands believe that research can save babies’ lives and improve care and support for families. They work in partnership with numerous trusts, health boards and healthcare professionals, to provide a number of training programmes and bereavement care resources that are available throughout the UK. They also work with the government to highlight and raise awareness.
Up to 15 babies a day die in the UK during pregnancy, during labour, or shortly after birth. Lots of neonatal deaths and stillbirths (death before birth) still don’t have an apparent cause. Sands promotes and funds research aimed at better understanding the causes of stillbirths and neonatal death, as well as to save babies lives.
